When the hood is installed in recirculation mode, air is drawn in and passed through multiple filters, including an activated charcoal filter that absorbs odors. The purified air is then released back into the kitchen. Over time, the activated charcoal particles become saturated and lose their effectiveness, allowing odors to remain in the kitchen.
