The art of cocooning

2 novembre 2020 | By Ameublements Tanguay

We all need a little bubble to retreat to. A place to refocus, recharge, and unwind. For most of us, that place is home. Today, we're sharing some decorating tips to help you transform your home into a real cocoon.

Spotlight on the art of cocooning.

What is cocooning?

Well-being, softness, and warmth. These are the basics of cocooning.

This trend, which emerged in the 1980s, draws inspiration from Zen, Lagom, Hygge, and Feng Shui. In a hyperconnected world that never lets up, cocooning offers comfort. We snuggle up in a “cocoon” where we feel at ease.

How to create a cozy atmosphere in your home?

The rooms that are best suited to cocooning are the living room and bedroom, as these are places that symbolize relaxation and comfort.

But with the right decorative accessories here and there, every room in the house can become a cozy retreat.

The living room

The cocooning-inspired living room is shifting toward a cozier decor, inviting you to retreat there to read a book or watch a good movie.

It emphasizes warm furniture, organic materials, and enveloping colors inspired by nature.

The autumn version of the cozy living room features inviting sofas adorned with multiple cushions and thick throws made of wool or faux fur.

The rug under the living room table is making a comeback. In cocooning mode, it helps to warm up the atmosphere with its long, fluffy pile.

The cocooning lounge returns to its original function: one of pleasure and relaxation.

The bedroom

The bedroom—the ultimate place to relax—welcomes cocooning with open arms.

The cozy bedroom calls for soft, comforting materials such as knitwear and velvet. It invites snuggly bedding in cream, caramel, and antique pink colors to take over our bed.

She replaces the sheer window coverings with thicker curtains that enhance the cozy and soothing atmosphere of the room.

Bedroom furniture includes wooden dressers or nightstands on which scented candles made with natural essences are placed, such as those from the Quebec brand Casa.

The cocooning-inspired bedroom also makes judicious use of light—neither too bright nor too direct. It favors lighting fixtures paired with dimmers that allow you to create soft lighting that can be adjusted throughout the day. The light from bedside lamps is also softer and less bright than that from a ceiling light, allowing us to drift off gently when night falls.

In the rest of the house

Elsewhere in the house, cozy touches adorn the hallways with attractive accessories and furniture. A simple bench or ottoman in the entryway, accompanied by a few wall decorations.

We continue with a wooden kitchen table or sideboard in the dining room, embellished with a few golden touches to add a little warmth and elegance.

In the bathroom, we complete the range with an aloe-enriched soap and a rich, ultra-nourishing hand cream.

Cocooning: invite comfort into your home

In a fast-paced world that constantly demands our attention, cocooning encourages us to slow down. It encourages us to get back to basics, take care of ourselves, and feel good at home.

Cocooning is for everyone. It leaves room for our individual preferences and invites us to return to our roots.

It's up to you to invite him into your home, in your own way.
